Once again, we learn that the former MEotW is a fraud. If you're really freewheeling and silly and just being an asshole for entertainment, you're still funny and cocky when your team loses. Get a load of this bit of funereal whining. All things considered, it makes me tremendously amused.
I watched quite a bit of the finals, which is surprising, considered that I haven't ever taken a huge interest in the NBA in the past. The degree to which the Lakers came unraveled as soon as things didn't go entirely their way was absolutely stunning. They got flat-out beat, and the more beat they got, the more they whined and moaned and picked up technical fouls.
It wasn't easy for me to root for the Pistons, mind you -- Rasheed Wallace still makes me grind my teeth from the days when he was with UNC. I always hated him profoundly. Perhaps the only thing that softened the blow in that regard is that I go even farther back hating Rick Fox for the same reason. But I did root for the Pistons. Because of the Timberwolves, because of Shaq, because of Kobe Bryant, because of the whining, because of the complaining, because of Jack Nicholson, and because of Simers.
The final game was very satisfying. In the second half, the Lakers were already cooked, and they acted like it. The final score with its 13-point margin doesn't at all reflect the ass-kicking that went on, because the asses kicked were kicked good and hard. It was a good game if you enjoy watching guys who specialize in strutting and bragging change their tunes and spend an hour or so fuming and sweating and tossing up bricks. Which I do.
I was a tad disappointed with the choice of footage to air post-victory. I like to see the "get-happys" when my team wins, not ridiculously dramatic footage of Koby and Shaq walking back to the locker room. Oh well.
I think the Pistons earned this. They proved that if you have a strong TEAM, you dont need a superstar.
Amen.
The Lakers don't even care. Phil Jackson's postgame press conference was upbeat... he seemed just to be happy to be done with the season so he could get the hell out of there.
On a spiteful note, I'm glad Gary Payton got nothing... he couldn't even suppress his bad attitude for one season to get himself a ring. His bitching and moaning (not to mention his washed-up play) certainly contributed to the Lakers demise. Ha. Ha. Ha.
Haha haha haha haha, yes! I was absolutely rooting for the Piston's in deference to my beloved T-Wolves and it was incredibly satisfying to see those cocky-ass Lakers lose their shit as soon as things didn't go their way. Every one of those Lakers is about 10 times too cocky for their own good - especially you Derek Fisher, don't you hold your hand up their after you make the shot you douche! And Gary Payton and Karl Malone (my friend had tickets to Game Five of the WCF and she was really close to the court and bitching about Malone 'cause we hates him and he stopped, turned and looked straight at her, his cocky grin transforming into the most pissed off look ever, which was hilarious) HA! Take that you whiney LOSERS!!!
And I hate Rick Fox too, but irrationally, because his hair sucks and he looks like a cocky idiot and 'cause he sometimes wears a sweatband on his head and looks like a fool. The only person on the team I like is Shaq, which is only because he seems dumb but impressed me in the post-show of Game 1 of the Western Conference by doing some quick-ass division in his head that I couldn't have done. I also like Kareem Rush just 'cause he's good and not showy; he makes his shots count. Okay, now I'm ramblin', sorry!
Oh my goodness, that was so sweet. I hate the Lakers to an almost irrational degree. Shaq is the worst, but he's closely followed by snooty Phil and snooty Kobe. I was soooo glad to see them get served a steaming portion of ass. When they lose, it is like all is right with the world. I can't hate Karl Malone at all, but everyone else with the Lakers (yes, Jack Nicholson, I'm looking at you) gets a heaping helping of hate from me.
My mom always said that if your team loses, you should always cheer for the team that beat them, so if that team wins, you will know you lost to the eventual champion. Our house is a Kings house, so we were cheering for the T'wolves after the Kings were eliminated...but try as I might, I could not cheer for the Lakers for more than about, oh, 3 seconds. They are just wrong. Thank goodness they lost. And oh, how they did lose.
Oh and by the way, thanks to Zoot for noticing the excessive Lakers footage after the Pistons' win. Could ABC please have been a little more obvious about who they wanted to win? Gag.
