I'm normally not a conspiracy theorist, but you know what? I think these guys are busted. Seriously. A wrinkle? No. It's not a wrinkle. The Salon article (registration or ad-watching required) is pretty damning. Especially if you've already been caught doing it once, which they have.
Wow. That's too funny. I don't dispute that he sounded like he was repeating a feed -- in fact, I think it's more than plausible that he was. But isn't it just even more embarassing that he couldn't sound *better* if he wasn't even composing his own responses?
And I totally think that Kerry's big mistake last night was when he talked about how no one in the audience was earning over 200K/yr.. Bad assumption, I'd think.

[ link ]Yeah, that comment made me wince too. Well, you all LOOK like trailer trash, so...
When was Bush caught with his handler's hand up his ass before? And what would the consequences be if this could be proved? Just a loss of credibility? I felt a little like some of the TAR poster who call for penalties left and right, but when he overrode the mediator and went off on his own rant I wanted him hauled off the stage. I don't know much about debating, but surely that's against the rules.

[ link ]Every Republican I've mentioned this to so far has either: (1) stuck their fingers in their ears and started chanting "LA LA LA LA" as loud as they could, or (2) argued that even if Bush was wired, it doesn't matter b/c Kerry had crib notes. {sigh}

[ link ]Not to jump on anybody or anything, but making less than $200/k per year doesn't make you trailer trash. It makes you a huge percentage of the American population. My husband and I make a great deal less than $200/k, but we're solidly middle class. I thought Kerry made an excellent point, and probably a very fair assumption if this was (as it seemed) mostly a traditional "working class" audience.

[ link ]We make considerably less than 200K/yr., too, and we're solidly middle-class as well; and I agree that Kerry's point was a good one. I was just surprised that he openly acknowledged having made the judgement based on appearances. He may have even had access to more info. about the audience that made it not a guess, but the truth -- but I think the same point would have been made by saying 'very few' of the people in this room would benefit, and not naming names.

[ link ]I realize that making less than $200k a year doesn't make someone trailer trash (I make less than a quarter of that). I also realize that Kerry didn't actually say the words "trailer trash". I was exaggerating what he did say for effect, trying to point out how easily people could be offended by his open assumption-making based on appearances.
