I don't know if I agree with everything that This guy has to say, but I do agree that the harder Rolling Stone tries to be hip, the less successful they are at it. The Beatles were not even as good as the Rolling Stones, but they did make some GREAT music at the time. The problem with these kinds of lists is that it is difficult to judge pop music outside of the time in which it was popular. The White Album and Sgt. Peppers, etc. represent part of the evolution of music over time. Buddy Holly and the Crickets were really good, too, but they make the Beatles seem cutting-edge. On the other hand, is Tupac that friggin' good? The author of this article is offended that Dwight Yoakam isn't on this list? Is he that influential?
