Actually, I think Dave Eggers is both a poster child for artistic petulance AND a brilliant marketer. It's hardly an either/or. He's one of those guys where I want to read his book, and then I want him to go away. Posted by Alison-Jane at 01:11 PM

I have no link for this, and I realize it's partly just bitterness talking, but I have to say again, as I watch Game 4, just how incredibly pathetic and sad I think it is that the Anaheim crowd has to bang sticks together in order to make adequate noise. That is the saddest, most wussy thing I have ever seen. We nursed our throats for two days after the Dome games. I would sooner die than participate in something that sad. We could have all fired off cap pistols, too, but we believe that noise should be made by human beings. God's sake. Posted by Alison-Jane at 08:44 PM
If you're here, you've probably already been there, but I am wilder than wild about Keckler's new site, The Grub Report. It's funny, it's interesting, it's energetic, it's educational, and it makes me really, really hungry. If you have any interest in cooking, or even if you don't, you must make your way over there and check it out. Posted by Alison-Jane at 12:22 PM

Well, all I can say about this is that we won our first game in our home park, too, you arrogant bastards, and we didn't need nearly as much ungodly good luck as you got. Stay tuned, because this is far from over. Oh, and any crowd that needs noisemakers to make noise is unfit to have an league champion in their town. Posted by Alison-Jane at 10:34 PM
Hey, whoever you are who got to this site by looking up "A J Pierzynski ass" on Google, Hi! (Sometimes I can't resist the referrer log.) Posted by Alison-Jane at 06:30 PM
Shut up, Andy Rooney. I can't believe there are still people who talk like this. I mean, honestly. Women can't talk intelligently about sports? I realize that there are a lot of women who (a) adopt a "hee-hee what sport is this again?" attitude when there's a game on, because they think men think it's cute; or (b) attempt to pretend to care about sports when they don't, because they think men think it's cute, and certainly I roll my eyes at such women. But not all of us are dabblers, Andy. I have the credit card bill, worn-out throat, old ticket stubs, and pink ribbon showing that I was Most Improved Player in my league in 1978 to prove it. Am I going to have to go see Punch-Drunk Love just because the very concept of Adam Sandler in (a) a good movie; and (b) a viable romance is so bizarre that if I don't see it myself, I'll never be able to understand the universe? I hope not, because I really, really hate Adam Sandler. Posted by Alison-Jane at 05:13 AM

Oh, look. The playoffs are all sold out. Don't we all wish I had tickets? Oh, wait. I do have tickets. Stay tuned, because I am going to the ALCS. Playoffs, baby! Posted by Alison-Jane at 06:33 PM

My goodness. I only get $420 if a guy who owns a bar decides I'm perfect? Wouldn't I hold out for more? Posted by Alison-Jane at 06:32 PM
Have I mentioned the Twins won yesterday? I don't know if I did. Anyway, here are some interesting tales. I like the fact that they're all goofballs. Posted by Alison-Jane at 06:42 AM
I love the part of this with the story about the team getting on the wrong BART train. Ha! In other Twins news, the best quote from this morning's postgame stuff was A.J. Pierzynski saying, "We don't really quit, ever." Way to go, boys. Posted by Alison-Jane at 05:40 AM

The current world situation is complex, but this will probably clear it right up. Posted by Alison-Jane at 11:50 PM
Really big food. This story is about what we could literally call "the whole enchilada." I apologize for that joke. Posted by Alison-Jane at 11:39 PM
Bite me, pinstripes. This is America's team. The fact that they rallied back is really no surprise. When they got down 5-1 -- no lie -- I said to myself, "Well, this is a very Twins way to start a game." But the fact that they beat Hudson is huge, as is the fact that they won on the road. Rock and roll baseball, baby, here we come. Posted by Alison-Jane at 07:47 PM
