Pimpage, Part III: The best thing to pimp, of course, is yourself. So here I am: Look, me! And look, me again! Yeah, there's no dignified way to do that. Posted by Alison-Jane at 06:56 AM
Pimpage, Part II: As you all know by now, I am a sentimental girl with a preposterously long memory. In the spirit of which, I recently enjoyed the DVD of a movie you probably haven't heard of by the name of Killing Emmett Young (seen a bit at film festivals last year under the [better] title Emmett's Mark), which was written and directed by Keith Snyder, who happens to be an old high school classmate of mine. Heh. Normally, "straight to video" is one of those chill-inducing phrases that . . . well, induces chills. But it's good, no foolin'. Quite interesting to look at. Yeah, it's got Scott Wolf, who is perhaps not your picture of a tortured cop, but he's quite good in it, and it's also got Gabriel Byrne and Tim Roth. And Sarah Clarke, even, for you 24 fans. I got it from Amazon.com, but it's supposedly hitting Blockbuster (so Blockbuster.com claims). Watch it. Think of me. Think of this very funny signing of my high school yearbook, which I think you will agree has unusual panache for a high school senior. (One day, I will tell you the story of why he refers to "orange peels." It's one of three stories of almost unbelievable embarrassment that made me the person I am today.) ![]() Posted by Alison-Jane at 06:53 AM
Pimpage, Part I: My dear friend FlyBoy (that's the adjectival sense of "fly," by the way) is offering the deal of the century if you're lucky enough to be in the Portland, OR area. It's a free (free!) literature class for adults. FlyBoy is absolutely one of my favorite people on earth, and the concept of discussing literature with him at a brewpub for free . . . damn. You're not going to find a better deal than that, at all, ever. It's almost enough to get me back to Portland. He's the bomb. If you're local, consider it. You'll thank me.
